Great Britain may have a reputation for turning out great amps through the years, but the supply of parts for today's UK valve amp makers is pretty poor. Compared to the USA, we have a small and shrinking number of suppliers.
Amp Maker rounds up amp parts that are hard to find and/or unnecessarily expensive here in the UK. By this, I mean the sort of stuff that Maplin - and even RS - is scaling back on.
I'd love to hear your feedback; if you're finding that some particular parts are hard - or prohibitively expensive - to locate, let me know.
About me
My background is editing and writing technology magazines, and I've been modding and making guitar amps for about 4 years. I'm frequently online at the Les Paul Forum, The Gear Page, Ampage, 18watt.com, AX84.com, the Plexi Palace and others (although I try hard not to spam with www.ampmaker.com links).
My screen ID on all forums is "loverocker" - taken from one of my favourite guitars, a custom-ordered Tokai Love Rock LS-320 (right).
