Martin's traditional combo

"As promised, a few photo's of the finished amp. Originally I was going to get a cab off Chris as my woodworking isn't the best, but I built one out of some scrap, with the intention of ordering one when I had the cash, but was so pleased with the result I decided to cover it. Now it's all my own work as the saying goes. I used tweed to cover it as a homage to the original and very fitting for the amp, I found an original Fender leather handle on ebay to complement the look and cheekily added a Fender logo just to set it off.

"Very pleased with the overall result and the tone, although the WGS G10CS is a little on the dark side so I may need a different speaker in due course."

Mat's heavyweight WF
"So, this is the next build. Cabinet is solid Tassia Oak with Danish Oil. The amp is powered by Tung Sol Big Bottle 6L6 and Tung Sol 12AT7 in the preamp.

"Speaker is a EVM12L I snaffled out of an old PA speaker the other week. It's probably the HEAVIEST 5 watter you'll ever lift! Sounds good if a little woofy at times. Next step is to add a tone control and perhaps a 4/8ohm toggle switch so it will run two cabs."

Andrew's reborn Behringer combo

"Barry, here's my finished amp, I've already used it at an open mic and in church, it really cuts through the band! How loud is 4 watts supposed to be? Maybe I'm using a very efficient speaker but I haven’t turned it up loud enough to hear any overdrive yet!

"It's in a Behringer cab with a Jensen speaker. I added the tone control and a stand by switch. Also I tried disconnecting the negative feedback but didn't want to commit myself by drilling a hole in the front panel so wired the switch by extending the wire to the output transformer and mounting it in the infill panel next to the input socket and have discovered the more scooped sound is ideal for acoustic guitar.

"It's my main amp now, thanks for this well designed kit! I've attached a photo with my "Square-vation" guitar - built from a guitar I found in a skip and a mahogany box."

Wayne's woody WF-55
Bizarrely, the usually competent courier for Amp Maker kits advised me that Wayne's kit was about to be returned to base ass it was uncollected. Which was news to Wayne, because he'd already got it!

"Weird? No problem at all - the amp is all made, modded, and played. All spot on, using some off cuts from a PRS copy I'm making with matched-up woods."

"I built a WF-55 kit some years ago. Finally it's completly finished, in a combo which I built with a friend of mine. The speaker is a 10" Jensen Ceramic C10Q, and the amp has some mods like fat switch, VVR, impedance selector."

Chad's WF with tone control
"Nearly complete. I added the tone control and hard-wired an 8" Jenson. The only thing I want to do is add a switch for internal to external speaker."

Steve's little combo
"The cab is pine with mock alligator Tolex. The amp face plate is tortoiseshell and Fender speaker cloth was used. The speaker is a Weber 8-in signature 4-ohm Alnico. The sound is great with the Telecaster and the nylon strung Tele."

Raynald's mellow fellow

"All came very smooth, and the amp worked first time plugged in. Wink Great Champ-ish design and good quality parts… It sounds as I expected: mellow-mellow.

"I’ve done a new blank chassis to fit the old 'chinese SS Fender clone box'. A new overall layout, then drilling and filing, and well, the result is quite right for me. Some tweakings and a new (wonderfully mellow) Eminence Lil’ Buddy 8 Ohm speaker, and I’ve got a sort of a 'bar-lounge-filled-with-smoke' jazz machine!

"It is called “Champ Special Jazz Custom”, you know. Yeah, serious, ah-ah…"

Danny's wonderful radio Champ
"I have finished building my WF-55 amplifier which is now in my custom enclosure which is a recycled 1947 Radio Case. I am near to completing a similarly bespoke SE-5a project."

Pablo's second cabinet

"Some months ago I finished the WF-55 kit and I promised to send you some photos. My first choice was to use an old Marshall combo for the chassis but everything went wrong with the tolexing. What a mess!! It was easy finishing your kit, but the tolex made me gone crazy!!

"After giving up with that combo, I started again and built a new cabinet and, this second time the tolexing went a little better (thanks to my wife cutting the seams). It took me some time to find a plate for the front of the amp and finally today I have finished the project (although I've been playing the amp for some time now).

"I hope you like the photos. The amp sounds fantastic and it looks nice too!!"
