Robert’s P1800 amp head
“I bought a P1800 kit from you a while back and finally completed it. The amp sounds great. I made the cabinet myself and it sits on a Hiwatt 412 speaker cab circa 1974. That has seen better days but still sounds great.”

“Hi. Here is a pic of my P1800 that I just finished. It is covered in cream-white and brown leatherette with gold piping. The head is made out of bookshelf pine and glued together. I used spray glue for the covering this time and it was a bit easier to work with than the
“I forgot to send you the photos of the N5X complete, see attached file. By the way nice cabinets from Chris!”
“I have attached a few photos of the Double 6. The cab has maple sides a black walnut top and a 15” speaker sounds great. The back and front I have stained in some sort of orange burst, anyway I am pleased with it. The speaker is a “15” eminence 1518 – not a rock
“Here’s the N5X – Buzz is almost undetectable at full VCB, full gain and full volume with the bypass switch open, and it sounds fantastic. Problem now is that I am not sure if I prefer the SE5, N5X or Double Six.”
“Here are a couple of photos of my finished build. The marine ply box has 62 coats of Shellac so it is like a mirror. I did a cherry-burst stain before the shellac which looks great. The front grill is made out of a cut section of gutter-guard and I added blue LEDS and a
“Last year I built a P1800, which is now back in its original state again. All trials for modifications did kill the perfect sound (e.g. NFB, Sprague caps…) The only modification I kept is on the VCB, which runs perfectly with a 800V Coolmos C3, because I killed the Toshiba chip. “I run the P1800
“With two 6L6s, it has an amazing breakup on full power over half volume and with the Les Paul sounds fantastic !! It takes all of my homemade pedals with ease and sounds like a screaming Marshall stack with the Wampler Tripple Wreck clone that I built recently, simply stunning !! It’s THE most
“Just to say how pleased I am with the Double Six build and the parts I had from you. I made it more difficult for a first amp build than I need have done by making my own chassis from a sheet of alloy and adapting your amp to fit into a tweed chassis. Amazingly
“Hi Barry. I built my ‘Double Six’ a little while ago, and have used it with both the 6V6 and 6L6 valves. I think I prefer the 6L6s just love the sound, love the amp. The cabinet in ‘red elephant’ is by Chris. It’s fitted with a 10″ 30watt 8ohm, Celestion Greenback. I might try
“Attached are a couple of photos of my WF-55. The cabinet is approximately a 3/4 scale version of a classic Marshall 1974X, but a bit deeper to accommodate the speaker and completed chassis. I’ve covered it in OLEV drab vinyl and applied gunstock oil to the control panel. Grille cloth is unbleached linen, the roundel
“The amp was in no way noisy. I used it for a lot of recording for this reason and never had to notch-filter it. After upgrading to higher power it was slightly, but no more so than typical new guitar amps. It was looked at by a guy who works a lot with valve hifi
“Hi. I finished the amp, it worked first time, the directions were easy to follow and it sounds good. I have sent you some photos. The cabinet was made from 18mm ply and 12mm ply, joined by pocket screws and glue. The driver is a Vox AC 10 driver and the speaker cloth is a
“It’s been five years or more since I purchased an SE-5a kit from you and, thanks to my incredible Dad rescuing it from the depths of my wardrobe, I thought you might like to see the finished article in all its glory! Could this be something of a gestation period record? As I’m sure you
“Here is my finished N5X head. I use it with an EL84 power tube and it’s unmodded. I had plans to do some gain mods but for now I use pedals instead. It has a good amount of gain for crunchy settings as it is and with an overdrive it really screams. It sounds great,
“I hope you’re well and business is going OK, amazingly it’s been over a year now since I built my P1800 and it’s still going strong. Even now I’m still finding new ways of getting different tones out of it. The cabinet design is pretty simple, almost entirely in birch plywood, mostly using 1″ but
“Hey! I just wanted to send you this picture of my finished amp. I didn’t have a good multimeter to use when testing the amp, but the grounds were all good and the readings I got were slightly below the typical voltages, so I figured it wouldn’t hurt the amp if I plugged it in.
“Here’s the result of my upright “Double Six”version. Great sounding amp (no hum and no buzz, etc). The VU meter is attached to the speaker output using a passive VU header. The small power transformer is for the backlight only (maybe I’ll change this to LED in the future). The chassis that I used is
